| What
is IPMS?
The INTERNATIONAL PLASTIC MODELLERS
SOCIETY was established in England in 1963
by modellers who shared their interest in building static
plastic scale models.
These modellers established “Plastic” in the Society
name to distinguish it from societies doing models in wood
or metal, either static or flying.
The models cover a wide range of subjects and periods, from
ships, airplanes and land vehicles to historical figures and
dioramas, not to mention science fiction and pure fantasy.
In short, modelling possibilities are almost endless.
This modelling association idea gradually spread worldwide,
with like societies in almost every country. However, there
is no centralized IPMS government nor absolute rules to follow,
so that every group in each country adapts the main idea to
its national traditions, tendencies and possibilities.
Being an IPMS member is a way to see plastic model building
as an enjoyable and worthwhile hobby, promoting friendship
and sharing knowledge and skills.
It can be said that IPMS is a common language worldwide, uniting
people in a friendly and growing group that shares the same
interest in plastic models.
IPMS Uruguay
After some initial tentative meetings, on 15 August 1987,
some local modellers meet in the first open to the public
meeting, also showing built models.
This date is seen as the creation of IPMS-Uruguay, and the
beginning of the road we are travelling today.
